Several publications are reporting that you might soon be able to ask your spouse or boyfriend if he has taken his oral contraceptive. Before you believe you did not get enough sleep last night and your reading comprehension skills are currently impaired, let me repeat. You may soon be able to ask your spouse or boyfriend if he has taken his oral contraceptive pill.
Let me explain. Researchers from the University of Washington in Seattle studied 83 men between the ages of 18 and 50. The participant’s testosterone levels dropped significantly along with two hormones essential for sperm production. The experimental pill is being called DMAU and it effects hormones and is taken once a day. The medication does have side affects with reports of weight gain and decreases in HDL (good) cholesterol.
Many males expressed that they would rather ingest a once a day pill rather than engage in a surgical procedure that is difficult to reverse. Researchers say that the initial study did not include enough sampling and that more experiment and study is needed.
Our Note: Fascinating story. We can envision sometime in the future the ICD-10 publishing a new code for male apprehension concerning the pill.
