Americans deserve better from our elected officials. The timeline and manner in which the latest attempt to repeal the ACA was unacceptable by normal standards. Regrettably, the “normal standard” is now defined as this contentious, angst filled relationship that exists between Democrats and Republicans.
We elect our representatives to do the will of the people not to pander to the hierarchy of a political party. The problem is that seconds after taking the oath of office, there is one thought that is foremost on the minds of politicians. That thought is “What do I have to do to get reelected?”
Unfortunately, we have drifted like a boat without a paddle in a strong crosscurrent when it comes to having serious sit-down discussions that inculcate common sense and the will of the people. Instead our motivators include money for reelection, focus groups and pandering to party bosses.
Your support or lack thereof for repeal and replacing Obamacare is not the central issue. Our focus should be on the lack of integrity and honesty on the part of our lawmakers. The inability to hold adult discussions on any issue up for debate under the Big Dome.
Our forefathers and foremothers (there would be no forefather without a foremother) envisioned healthy debate. They did not envision lobbyists and big money controlling the outcome of every issue.
